Building Military Families Network

Building Military Families Network’s mission is to provide an empowering and supportive network to military and veteran families navigating the challenges in the family building process through support groups, education, and resources. We offer monthly support groups on various topics that provide a safe space to talk about your family building journey with others to gain support, encouragement, and more. Our education center is full of information on all things family building from options, to what TRICARE does and does not cover, and more. We also have a resource library that has all the tools and information our military and veteran families will need to feel empowered on their family building journey from discounts to apps. Building Military Families Network strives to be a beacon of hope for building military families.

The Military Family Building Coalition

Military Family Building Coalition is the first military support non-profit organization focused solely on active duty military family building education and programs.

We do this by:

● Educating active duty service members and their families about the current military health care fertility and adoption landscape and help them navigate their path to a family

● Educating the American public about this gap in coverage, care and support for military families and what we can do to fix it

● Sharing resources for current military families who are seeking treatment, fertility preservation before a deployment, or adoption assistance to relieve some of their financial burdens

● Partnering with organizations who are pushing for policy change, so that the American public can fully #SupportOurTroops in this most important mission - building a family

Our vision is for an America that supports all active duty military service members to build the families they want regardless of deployment schedules, gender, fertility challenges, or financial situation.

The AVIATRIX Project

The AVIATRIX Project is a pilot program serving all of Naval Aviation, officer and enlisted, that will provide care navigation for individualized family building and fertility guidance on female reproductive health to the service members.

The AVIATRIX Project is a unique collaboration with WINFertility and the Military Family Building Coalition. WINFertility provides free personalized guidance and support to better understand the options available to the military member and to achieve individual objectives for building a family. Participants in the program have access to the WIN network of doctors and pharmacies. The program DOES NOT eliminate all out of pocket costs for care, but does provide the military member with support and coordination in accessing discounted care within the private sector. Patient privacy and security is 100% HIPPA compliant. Discounted care is available within the WINFertility network and ranges from 40%-60% in both treatment and pharmaceuticals.

WINFertility has provided this gift for three years and has the capacity to support 500 Naval Aviation members. Currently, the active duty female service member has priority enrollment. A “space available contingency” is available for dependents/spouses of the active duty male service member.

Adoption Consultations: Military OneSource

Military life is not a barrier to growing your family through adoption and foster care. There are some aspects of adoption and foster care that are unique to military life. Let a Military OneSource adoption consultant help you navigate the process.

Military OneSource adoption specialty consultants offer information to help families:

  • Understand the different types of adoptions and the type of adoption the family is seeking

  • Begin the family’s unique adoption process

  • Provide basic information on the general process of adoption, including home studies, length of time an adoption takes and costs associated with adoption

  • Locate military-related financial assistance

  • Identify agencies that can help you with your specific adoption needs, including information and referral

  • Begin the foster care or adoption through foster care processes, including information and referral to state or county licensed agencies, the Department of Child and Family Services, and/or the Department of Human Services

  • Understand state-specific adoption and foster care requirements

  • Provide information on adoption and foster care agencies and support groups, and general adoption and foster care literature

VIVA Bob Woodruff Foundation

The Bob Woodruff Foundation’s Veterans In Vitro InitiAtive, or “VIVA”, helps wounded veterans struggling with infertility to achieve their dream of growing their families by connecting them with resources and in many cases, providing financial support.

When our service members return home and begin looking to the future, they can be faced with a sensitive and scary reality that the wounds of war can impact intimacy and fertility. In early 2017, the VA began offering services for those veterans struggling to conceive due to service-connected wounds, but not everyone qualifies for VA support. Fertility resources and processes like IUI and IVF can be costly and difficult to navigate. That’s where the Bob Woodruff Foundation’s Veterans In-Vitro InitiAtive (VIVA) comes in, to help veterans with service-connected infertility, but who are ineligible for IVF through the VA

Military Families Considering Adoption: Child Welfare Information Getaway

This factsheet provides an overview of adoption processes that are specific to military families, such as receiving permanent change of station orders or being deployed overseas. Although military families who adopt will primarily go through the same process as civilian families, the process may vary depending on whether the military family is stationed in the United States or overseas.
