Military Sexual Trauma and Sexual Assault
Sexual assault and Military Sexual Trauma are pervasive problems in the United States Armed Forces. The aftermath looks different for all survivors. Whether the survivor is seeking support for physical or emotional trauma related to assault, SWAN is here to connect her with the appropriate assistance.
Legal Help
Survivors of MST and sexual assault often face an unfair justice system or mismanagement of cases. Fortunately, there are organizations dedicated to helping our service members find justice. These resources can help appeal a denial of service connection for PTSD related to MST, act as legal representation in the military justice process, discharge status upgrades specific to MST, or assistance filing grievances.
Physical/Mental Health
Military Sexual Trauma and sexual assault are serious and dangerous both to mental and physical health. Survivors often need both physical and mental health care services after an attack. These resources provide services that range from peer support networks to professional counseling services. Servicewomen who have experienced sexual assault or MST deserve safe spaces for emotional healing.
Statistics
Sexual assault is a serious issue affecting both women and men on a national scale. This is no different for members of the armed forces. These statistics can help one to better understand the magnitude of the problem of sexual assault and harassment.
