Service Dogs

Assistance Dogs International

This website provides a search engine that can help find service dog organizations by region. Assistance Dogs International, Inc. (ADI) is a worldwide coalition of non-profit programs that train and place Assistance Dogs. Founded in 1986 from a group of seven small programs, ADI has become the leading authority in the Assistance Dog industry.

Service Dog Strong

Our Mission

We are a Maine 501(c)(3) that funds adoption and training costs for Service Dogs and Survivors. This includes spaying/neutering. We match the appropriate dog with their Survivor and place the team in a 20-week training program together. This training transforms the dogs from ordinary, rescue dogs into highly trained, "medical equipment," offering both Survivors and their Service Dogs a new lease on life.

We pair rescue dogs with Survivors of sexual assault and military sexual trauma (MST) who have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and facilitate the training to transform them into Service Dogs.

K9s For Warriors

K9s For Warriors is ending veteran suicide and returning our Warriors to a life of dignity and independence. We rescue and train shelter dogs to be paired as Service Dogs for Warriors with service-connected Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury, and/or Military Sexual Trauma.

Train a Dog, Save a Warrior Inc.

The Train a Dog Save a Warrior (TADSAW) program serves the veteran, the family, and the community, by providing the warrior with a K-9 rescue ‘Battle Buddy’ and the training and tools needed to become an accredited TADSAW Warrior/Service Dog Team.

TADSAW additionally provides for the training of a Medical Alert Service Dog for any veteran’s immediate family, the spouse or children, surviving with compassion fatigue, secondary PTSD, or any other mental health issue diagnosed while the veteran was deployed or on active duty.

American Humane First to Serve

American Humane has been First to Serve with the U.S. military for a century: Our animal rescue program was born on the battlefields of World War I Europe, where, at the request of the U.S. Secretary of War, volunteers with American Humane deployed to rescue and care for 68,000 wounded war horses each month. We continue to proudly honor this legacy today through American Humane’s Lois Pope LIFE Center for Military Affairs. The program, founded through the generosity of philanthropist and passionate veterans advocate, Lois Pope, offers meaningful support to our Armed Forces with two key areas of focus: first, providing lifesaving service dogs to veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress or Traumatic Brain Injury; second, protecting America’s hard-working military dogs and recognizing their heroic contributions to our country – both on and off of the battlefield.
